Alumni return to Trent Park for BA Performing Arts reunion

    09/06/2014

BAPA Reunion in Trent ParkTrent Park on a sunny May bank holiday provided the perfect setting for more than 100 BA Performing Arts (BAPA) alumni to reunite with old classmates and return to the place their friendships began.

Though the Middlesex campus at Trent Park is no longer owned by the University, it still holds a very special place in the hearts of many graduates and the picturesque park in north London was the only choice for the 2014 BAPA reunion.

Organised by Middlesex University lecturer and former BAPA student Dale Wightman, the event was held at Southgate Hockey Club in the heart of the park and provided the opportunity for alumni of the course to bring along their families for a day in the sun.

Graduates of the course from as far back as 1978 right up to the final cohort of 2003 attended the reunion, alongside a number of ex-staff who helped make it a day to remember.

Among the staff in attendance were former Head of Performing Arts Byron Davies and Head of Music Julian Minchim, Principal Lecturer Ruth Thompsett, and Programme Leader and Principal Music Lecturer David Peacock.

"Everyone had a great time at the event," said Dale, who now teaches on the BA Television Production course at Middlesex after graduating from BAPA in 2002.

"We all really enjoyed the venue. The garden area of the Hockey Club is lovely and we had a bouncy castle to keep the kids entertained.

"The question now is how to build the network of former BAPAs so that at the next reunion we have even more people there."

As well as music and food paid for by the Alumni Association, the reunion also provided the opportunity to take in the old campus grounds and a number of people enjoyed an informal tour around the old home of performing arts at Middlesex University.

Pat Mitchell, who graduated in 1983, said: "The BAPA Reunion was an amazing trip down memory lane. Meeting everyone and walking around the grounds was such a nostalgic trip that I got quite emotional.

If you are a BAPA alumnus but did not receive an email invitation for the reunion then we probably don't have up-to-date contact details for you. Please register with myAlumniHub so we can make sure you don't miss out on future events.

The BAPA Reunion 2014 also has a Facebook group which you can join to find out more and see all of the photographs from the event.
