Kirstie joined Middlesex University in 2000 as a senior lecturer. Kirstieregistered as aRegistered General Nurse in 1992 andpreviously held a range of posts within nursing including; Clinical Nurse Specialist at Northwick Park Hospital, Ward Manager at the Hospital of St. John and St. Elizabeth, Senior Staff Nurse at St. Thomas Hospital and the Middlesex Hospital and Staff Nurse at Edenhall Hospice. Kirstie's clinical nursing background is in medicine and palliative care. Following initial registration as a nurse Kirstie completed a BSc(Hons) in Nursing at Manchester University, an MPhil in medical law at Glasgow University and CPE at Middlesex University. Kirstie also has a PGCHE from Middlesex University and is registered with the NMC as a nurse teacher.
Kirstie is programme leader for the BSc(Hons) Nursing programme - pre-registration and top up. Kirstie also links to the College of Animal Welfare and teaches on BSc (Hons) Veterinary Nursing with the College, Kirstieis Institutional Link to Chase Farm Hospital.
Kirstie has a particular interest in the care of dying patients and in legal issues, Kirstie completed her MPhil thesisin 'Pre-Implantation genetic diagnosis with tissue typing'.
Kirstie's particular research interests include legal isues, especially consent to treatment and mental capacity, transcultural nursing issues and academic misconduct. Kirstie was part of a research team led by Mary Tilkiinvestigating rascism within nursing education.
