Claire is a lecturer on the BA Graphic Design Program at Middlesex University on a 0.8 contract and has previously taught at The London College of Communication, Hertford Regional College, Kensington and Chelsea College and Westminster University. Claire's main teaching interests are typography including historical and contemporary issues and visual communication in the form of experimentation with ideas, media and materials.
Outside of teaching Claire works as a graphic designer for a London based architectural practice. Claire has a personal interest in Letterpress, which she was able to investigate in detail whilst completing her MA. Claire's research paper was titled: The Relationship between Letterpress and Digital Technology. This research involved investigating ways of bringing old typographic technologies into the classroom to help teach the rules and history of typography whilst using modern technologies.
Whilst at Middlesex Claire has worked with Jonathan Barnbrook and a group of students on a research project based around the Troubles in Northern Ireland. Her role was to organise and make a record of the process that the students and designer went through.

Pedagogic interests
My main areas of interest within teaching are inclusive learning, methods of providing feedback and fair assessment. To pursue these interests I take part in staff development sessions and I keep up to date with the institute for learning articles. I have also taught on the widening participation programme at the London College of Communication where I have been one of two teachers who work with a group of Jewish ladies.
Whilst completing my PGCE I concentrated on the above areas of interest which led me to write the following reports which continue to influence my teaching practice:

The future of the 21st Century book: Looking at how to develop the physical book into an object that replicates or works with a digital book.
The Peace Dividend: A project that both students and Jonathan Barnbrook were involved on. Based around the Troubles in Northern Ireland.
