Dr Angus Nurse joined Middlesex University in May 2013. He was previously Lecturer in Criminology at Birmingham City University (2011 to 2013) and Research Fellow in the Law School at the University of Lincoln (January 2008 to the end of September 2011). Angus was Investigations Co-ordinator for the Royal Society for the Protection of Birds (RSPB) from 1990 to 1997 and was the RSPB's Legal and Data Protection Officer from October 1997 to February 2000. He was subsequently an Investigator for the Commission for Local Administration in England (the Local Government Ombudsman) from February 2000 to February 2008.

Angus's main research interests are in wildlife and environmental crime and the effectiveness of laws protecting animals and wildlife. His work in this area also includes examining the links between animal abuse and interpersonal violence, the use of justice systems to achieve better protection for animals and pursue animal rights (broadly defined) and the better integration of animal crime within mainstream criminal justice.
Angus's other research interests include cultural representations of crime, access to justice (particularly access to environmental justice and the marginalization of the vulnerable) and alternative dispute resolution (ADR) and the use of alternatives to traditional court systems to achieve effective justice.
