Dr Magali Peyrefitte is interested in exploring various urban related issues using a range of multi-modal and multi-media methodologies. Her teaching is directly informed by her research interests with the aim to provide a critical and transformative space for her students.
Following her MA in Contemporary British Society (with Merit) at the University of Nottingham, Magali Peyrefitte was awarded an E.S.R.C 1+3 studentship and went on to do her PhD on the subject of British Asian suburbanisation in the city of Nottingham (thesis title: Diasporic Trajectories of Suburbanisation: Ethnicity, Space and Place).
Magali continues to be interested in the experience of settling, integrating and home-making in cities in the UK. Recently, she worked on a project making an innovative use of the digital story approach with migrant women working in the voluntary sector in London. In France, she has been conducting research around gender and suburbanisation which were originally presented in a portrait exhibition thinking about alternative ways of disseminating sociology and engaging the public: http://www.ladepeche.fr/article/2015/12/25/2244576-exposition-a-l-espace-germaine-chaumel.html
Her work has also been expanding to issues of gentrification in Soho (https://mdxminds.com/2016/07/21/top-down-gentrification-in-soho-a-reflection-in-words-and-images/) and in the Northern suburbs of London.
In addition, Magali has been working on the question of employability: https://www.heacademy.ac.uk/resource/e-portfolios-evaluating-and-auditing-student-employability-engagement
