The Institute for Work Based Learning is internationally recognised for innovation and expertise in professional and work-based learning. The Institute offers organisations and individuals the opportunity to gain formal recognition and academic credit for learning that occurs in the workplace. We create higher education programmes where participants focus their learning on their workplace activities – enhancing the skills and abilities of individuals and providing return on investment for employers in the UK and around the world. Our Work and Learning Research Centre is at the heart of the Institute, investigating the development and application of professional work-based learning .
We support a broad range of innovative professional practice programmes at undergraduate and postgraduate level. For more senior practitioners, we offer our Professional Doctorate and Professional Doctorate by Public Works. We work with a range of partners to create workforce development programmes. Led by the Institute, Middlesex University has developed innovative Higher and Degree Apprenticeships in a number of sectors.
