Students gain practical insight into global issues at the UN and other European organisations

Ambitious Middlesex University postgraduate students are getting hands-on experience at some of the world's most important decision-making centres for global governance, as part of the Practicum in International Organisations module.

Students taking postgraduate degrees offered by the School of Law can undertake the 60-credit Practicum, which provides a unique opportunity to spend between three and six months working at the United Nations, global union federation offices and NGOs learning more about how important international issues are addressed.

Postgraduate students from Middlesex have gone to the Office of the High Commissioner for Human Rights, the UN High Commissioner for Refugees, and the Building and Woodworkers International global union federation, as well as a range of NGOs and other UN agencies in Geneva.

Practicum in International Relations"The module is an incredible opportunity for postgraduates to acquire a systematic understanding of the role of non-state actors in influencing and managing global change," explained Dr Phoebe Moore, Senior Lecturer in International Relations in the School of Law, who convenes the Practicum.

"Students gain practical experience in learning how international organisations function and through first-hand involvement with the operational and strategic activities of globally governing bodies."

As a result, students who complete the Practicum are able to produce a substantial piece of independent research relevant to their course and impress prospective employers with their global outlook and international experience.

The module is open to postgraduate students at Middlesex University enrolled on the following School of Law postgraduate programmes:

Most placements offer guaranteed scholarships. For more information, contact Dr Phoebe Moore.
