About the School of Health and Social Sciences


The School of Health and Social Sciences is a leading centre for professional education and research in the health and social sciences in London. Along with our diverse range of programmes and research opportunities, we offer various approaches to study and delivery to suit you and your commitments. Many of our health and social science courses are UK firsts – including Traditional Chinese and Ayurvedic Medicine, Dual Diagnosis and Risk Management – and have set the standard for others to follow.

We continue to invest in teaching and research: Our new facilities in Mental Health and Social Work has been awarded a recognition as Centre for Excellence in Teaching and Learning.  We’ve invested £2m in state-of-the-art biomedical and bioscience laboratories and our facilities for Psychology and Sport and Exercise Science are some of the best in the UK.

Our research is internationally recognised – with the pioneering work of the Flood Hazard Research Centre recently named as one of the top 100 discoveries and developments at a UK university*.

The School provides health and social science courses, research and services to business in the following subject areas: Biomedical and Biological Sciences; Complementary Health; Criminology; Environment, Development and the Community; Public Health, Risk and Safety; Social Sciences and Sport and Exercise Science.
