DEPARTMENT OF MENTAL HEALTH, SOCIAL WORK & INTERPROFESSIONAL LEARNING

About Us

The Department of Mental Health, Social Work and Interprofessional Learning is one of the leading providers of Mental Health and Social Work Education in the UK. In March 2005 it was awarded status as a Centre of Excellence for Teaching and Learning (CETL) by the Higher Education Funding Council. CETL status was awarded for demonstration of excellence in learning and teaching practice.

We have a large and diversely skilled staff group who has extensive knowledge and understanding of mental health, social work education and interprofessional learning in the areas of education, practice and research.

Courses

Our degree programmes in Mental Health and Social Work  are designed with academic rigour to enable our students to make the transition from being graduates to working professionals. Our courses are regularly reviewed to ensure they meet the requirements of our students and of employers.

We provide placements for all our pre-qualifying programmes that meet the standards required by the General Social Care Council and the Nursing and Midwifery Council for social work and mental health practice respectively.

In addition to our core degree courses we offer a range of CPD courses to meet the continuing learning need of already qualified professionals. Our specialty is to work with employers to develop new customised programmes.
