Introduction to Psychology at Middlesex
Psychology is the scientific study of behaviour and the human mind. Our commitment to research and scholarship enables us to provide some of the UK's most innovative and up-to-date teaching in a vibrant research culture. We are one of the largest departments within the School, with 35 full and part-time academic, research, technical and administrative staff, supporting 600 undergraduate and postgraduate students.
Special features / Achievements
Our undergraduate and postgraduate programmes offer students the flexibility to integrate the study of psychology with a range of subjects, including human resource management, marketing and counselling skills, and work placements whilst gaining a British Psychological Society (BPS) accredited degree.
Our department has brand new facilities for teaching and specialist research, which are also some of the best in the UK. These include: Teaching laboratories in Psychophysiology (EEG, GSR, ECG, respiration, ERP); Human Olfaction; Virtual Reality Technology; Social psychology Developmental Psychology (Babylab); Individual Differences and Social Observation; Links with the London Sport Institute.
Research
Psychology teaching provision at Middlesex is underpinned and enhanced by strong commitment to research and scholarship. The expertise of academic staff within the group covers all of the main areas of psychology but the principal research outputs are in the areas of: Language and Communication; Applied Health and Social Psychology (including Forensic Psychology and Sport and Exercise Psychology); Forensic Psychological Services; Applied Cognition; Centre for Psychoanalysis.
