Ethics and Research Governance
The Ethics and Research Committee at the School of Health and Social Sciences aims:
- to ensure that staff give close attention to ethical issues related to research, teaching and institutional practice.
- to ensure that staff give close attention to ethical issues in their proposals for, and in the conduct of research activities, whether externally or internally funded or unfunded.
- to ensure that staff development activities in the School include regular workshops on issues relating to ethical procedures.
- to liaise with the School Research Degrees Committee on ethical issues.
- to ensure that close attention to ethical issues is given at the registration and transfer stages of each doctoral student's career and to liaise with the School Research Degrees Committee on this matter.
- to liaise with the School Academic Planning Committee and other relevant CLQ groups regarding ethical issues in taught programmes and curricula.
- to institute a regular system of audit of the work of sub-committees to ensure continuing good practice and recommend improvements. to receive reports from subcommittees on their activities and decisions at regular intervals.
- to consider applications from individuals/institutions external to Middlesex University who wish to conduct research within the University and provide advice to relevant sub-committee.
- to deal with complaints of ethical misconduct which could not be resolved at a lower level.
The committee is chaired by Dr Lucy Ghali, Senior Lecturer Biomedical Cell Biology and administrative support is provided by Kirsty Rawlings, Secretary.
