The Marine Society, based in London, is an independent charity committed to serving the best interests of seafarers. No organisation has more experience of delivering learning at sea.

Marine Society & seafarers
The Institute for Work Based Learning is proud to be working with the Marine Society in providing prestigious distance learning programmes for seafarers and shore-based maritime professionals.

Our offer allows you to complete a bachelors degree or a masters degree without needing to come ashore.  One of the best aspects of the programmes is that they give you the opportunity to make a claim for credit in recognition of your professional achievements and skills.

DProf Professional Doctorates

Programmes in development
We are currently developing programmes for Royal Navy Personnel to use their City and Guilds Senior Awards towards our qualifications ready for our February 2012 intake.

The Marine Society supports these programmes in the following ways:

  •  Marine Society can enrol you, reducing paperwork and speed registration;
  • it keeps tabs on your movements and advises Middlesex on your behalf;
  • acts as honest broker between yourself and Middlesex
  • its unmatched experience and array of processes for the administration and delivery of learning programmes are used to encourage and sustain you through the programme;
  • scholarships are available to help offset tuition costs.

 The Marine Society's support package cannot be offered retrospectively. So prospective students are advised to contact the society at the earliest opportunity.
