An International University
Middlesex was one of the first British universities to open campuses overseas, the first in Dubai in 2005 and the second in Mauritius in 2010. The University recognises that more and more of our students will have a career that spans the world, even if they do not travel for their work or work in different countries, they are likely to be required to communicate with people located in other countries and continents.
Middlesex University currently teaches 35,500 students, and about 30 per cent of these are international students. 22,000 study on the University’s London campuses and 20 per cent of these students are from overseas. A further 5,000 study on programmes validated by Middlesex but provided by the University’s partners in the UK. And there are 8,500 Middlesex students studying overseas of which 1,200 are based on Middlesex’s Dubai campus and 7,300 study on programmes validated by Middlesex but provided by the University’s partner institutions overseas.
Middlesex has formed partnerships with many prestigious institutions around the world, in countries as diverse as Egypt, Hong Kong, China, Hungary, Turkey, Greece, Botswana and the USA. Many of these institutions teach Middlesex degree courses in collaboration with UK academic staff.
Middlesex University Dubai
Middlesex’s first overseas campus is situated in Dubai’s prestigious Knowledge Village and the campus boasts state-of-the-art teaching facilities including lecture theatres, an English Language Centre, seminar rooms, computer labs, Wi-Fi enabled areas, Learning Resource Centre, student lounge and prayer room. Purpose built halls of residence are nearby, linked to the campus by a shuttle bus service.
Middlesex University Dubai opened in 2005 and now teaches well over 1,000 students from 50 different countries, reflecting the University’s ethos of diversity.
Courses taught in Dubai are subject to the same quality assurance procedures that have earned Middlesex the highest possible endorsement from the UK’s Quality Assurance Agency for Higher Education. The courses are validated and monitored using exactly the same system as on the London campuses, with the same examinations taken simultaneously on both cities. The subject focus ranges from the social sciences and arts to business and information technology.
Students can transfer between Middlesex University Dubai and Middlesex University’s London campuses.
Middlesex University Mauritius
Middlesex’s second overseas campus is situated in Bonne Terre, which is a suburb of Vocaos in Mauritius. The campus feature spacious classrooms in a range of sizes, a Learning Resource Centre, open access and specialist computer suites and on-site student accommodation.
Students study for British degrees in Business and Information Technology-related subjects. Lecturing academics based at the Mauritius campus work in partnership with the academic programme team based at Middlesex’s London campuses to ensure the quality standards of the UK programmes are maintained in curriculum delivery.
Middlesex University Mauritius has been developed with the support of the President of Mauritius, The Right Honourable Sir Anerood Jugnauth. He commented: “I am thankful to Middlesex University London for inviting me to be associated with the establishment of its campus in Mauritius. I have no doubt that students in Mauritius and the Indian Ocean region will be very happy to hear that this prestigious University is setting up here to run its high quality degree programmes at affordable costs. The world recognised degree programmes run by the University will bring added value to the fast-developing Mauritian education system. Education is high on the agenda of the Mauritian Government: our vision is to develop Mauritius into a knowledge hub for the region. I wish Middlesex University plenty of success in its future endeavours”.
