Research and Scholarly Activity:
January 1994 - 2000 Research Assistant (part time) for Prof. Colin Francome, (Reader in Medical Sociology) at Middlesex University.Worked on project into unwanted pregnancies in Britain as part of research into contraception and abortion practices in Britain and the United States of America. This was in order to up date a previous book 'Abortion Practice; In Britain and the United States', 1986. Allen amp; Unwin.
'The Health of the Nation' in 1996, I developed questionnaires and interviewed General Practitioners on their opinions re the frequent changes made to the funding of general practice. Analyses their responses using quantative and qualitative research methods. Collaborated on a paper into Kidney Transplantation and the number of organs available for donation by compiling a questionnaire for nephrology consultants, used statistical analysis to interpret their responses. The results of this study were published in the British Medical Journal 'Increasing the Number of Organ Transplants' in the May, 1995 Journal. Later published in Professor Colin Francome and Professor David Marks' book 'The Health of the Nation' on 27th March 1996 by Middlesex University Press. This book was the result of a larger research project into the National Health Service.
Research Projects:
- July 2009: Joint paper on Jean Charles De Menezes with Dr A. Loumansky submitted for peer review to Springer's Journal of Crime, Law and Social Change.
- Second paper: A Comparative Study into the handling of terrorist cases in England and Wales with methods used in Israel - to be submitted for peer review in August 2009.
- Funding Application with Almeria University to undertake research into Law and Literature and set up a conference in either Middlesex or Almeria University. The Application is with the Spanish Department of Education under a cross discipline and international fund application.
- PhD area: Into the Police methods in dealing with the terrorist threat; with particular emphasis on the changes made necessary by the changing face of terrorism.
Industrial Links:
I have developed links with the Metropolitan Police Service, which are beneficial both to them and the University. Acted as an observer with Trident, my PhD involves researching police methods on counter terrorism. Several senior police officers have been guest lecturers on my modules and those of a colleague. Middlesex Law Department is investigating further ways of developing these links.
Overseas Links:
Teaching links with The University of Almeria, Spain under the ERASMUS Programme. Reciprocal agreement with lecturers in their History and English Literature Schools to give lectures on Law in Literature. 2008-9 there has been 3 visits. Dr A Loumansky and myself have been to Almeria twice and Professor Dr Jesuias Gomez Lopez has lectured at Middlesex once.
