Research Interests

Elise's PhD research focuses on the phylogenetic modelling of invasive species based on the recent UK colonisation of the freshwater shrimp Crangonyx pseudogracilis.

Teaching Interests

Quantitative research methods
Geographical Information Systems
Fundamentals of science

Her research methods include:

  • Measuring the rate of genetic change between isolated Crangonyx populations and using this information to trace their spread throughout the UK.
  • The use of Geographical Information System (GIS) mapping and multivariate analyses for generating models regarding the effect of temporal, spatial and abiotic factors on species' spread and rate of genetic differentiation.
  • The knowledge resulting from this research project will be used to assist conservation organisations and government agencies to prevent the establishment of invasive species, and to aid their management and control where they have become established.

Other research interests include:
Coastal ecology (BSc dissertation)
