Ellie (Eliza) Franklin
Senior Lecturer, Module Leader, Learning Enhancement Advisor
Department: Accounting and finance
Ellie is a Middlesex University alumni who completed her placement year with Barclays Plc in 1998/9. She qualified as an ACA (ICAEW Chartered Accountant) with Deloitte where she worked for 8 years in the Deloitte Financial Services Group (Banking and Securities Audit) as well as holding posts in the Deloitte UK and Global Learning and Development Teams. Audit clients she was involved with included among others: Tullett Prebon Plc (Broking), Lazard (Investment Banking), Mizrahi Tefahot Bank (Banking), Mitsui Bussan Commodities (London Metal Exchange Commodities Broker), Lexicon (Corporate Finance House), ECGD (The UK Government’s Export Credits Guarantee Department), Cazenove (Capital Management), as well as internal audit outsourced projects for Visa (Credit Cards). This professional experience informs her teaching of audit and financial accounting at Middlesex University where she returned, this time in a lecturing capacity, in 2008.
She is keen on, and often champions, the use of technology in teaching and promotes the benefits of work experience to support academic study, which she believes leads to both personal growth as well as growth in graduate employment prospects. She is also a strong supporter of social mobility and access to the accounting (and other) profession(s) by talented students from post-92 universities. To that end, she is a member of The Bridge Group http://www.thebridgegroup.org.uk/ - and independent policy association for the promotion of social mobility through higher education.
In her spare time she likes to write.
