Biography

Professor Jon Bird has written extensively on visual culture and contemporary visual arts.
He was a founder editor of Block and co-editor of the 'Futures: New Perspectives in Cultural Analysis' series of books (1993-96).
With Lisa Tickner, he was Series Editor for 'ReVisions: Critical Studies in the History and Theory of Art', and he is Editorial Co-ordinator for the Oxford Art Journal.

He is an independent, curator of contemporary art; most recently he curated the Leon Golub retrospective at the Irish Museum of Modern Art, Buffalo and Brooklyn Museum, New York, 2000-01), and 'Otherworlds: Nancy Spero and Kiki Smith' for the Baltic Centre for Contemporary Art, Gateshead (2003-04).
