Research Interests

I'm interested in the relations between practices of editing, marketing, textual presentation and the production of meaning. I am particularly interested in exploring these concerns in the context of contemporary publishing and the area of the Web. My approach is interdisciplinary, drawing on literary and publishing studies as well as media and cultural studies.

Teaching Interests

My teaching ranges across journalism and communication: publishing and media studies and media and cultural studies. I teach on a range of modules in these areas at undergraduate and postgraduate level. I am particularly interested in areas of marketing communication and consumer culture and processes of writing and editing.

I am based in the Department of Media, on programmes drawn from media and cultural studies, publishing and media, and journalism and communication studies

Current Work

Programme leader for a range of programmes in the area of media, culture and communication studies primarily:

  • Advertising, Public Relations and Media
  • Communication and Media Studies
  • Magazine Publishing
  • Publishing and Media

Among my duties are:

  • Co-ordinator London and Dubai Publishing and Media delivery
  • Link Tutor for franchise media programmes at HKU SPACE
  • University representative for reviews and validations
  • Member of School Accreditation Board

Also,a range of duties linked to teaching, curriculum development and curriculum delivery.

Publications

  • I have published in a range of areas related to media, communication and publishing studies
  • I am co-author of a recent book on Jack the Ripper
  • I have had a range of chapters published in edited collections ranging from work on punk to explorations of genres of digital media
  • I have contributed to journals such as Convergence
  • I have presented papers on marketing, paratexts and other areas.
