Research Interests
Sue's research interests focuses on political communication, news management, and rethinking Habermas's theory of the 'public sphere'.
Editorships
- Previous member of Editorial Committee and News Editor of Spinwatchhttp://www.spinwatch.org.uk. Spinwatch aims to foster a greater awareness of spin and public relations. Spinwatch also campaigns against the manipulations of the PR industry and work to expose spin techniques such as media management, lobbying, corporate social responsibility, front groups, dirtytricks and spying.
- Previous member of National Council of Campaign for Press and Broadcasting Freedomhttp://www.cpbf.org.uk. The Campaign for Press and Broadcasting Freedom is an independent voice for media reform and works to promote policies for a diverse, democratic and accountable media.
Teaching Interests
Sue's teaching interests include contemporary sociological theory, political sociology, and sociology of the media. Current teaching responsibilities include:

Since joining Middlesex, Sue has built up an extensive range of teaching experience across both criminology and sociology modules, including:History of Social Ideas, Classical and Contemporary Criminological Theory, Sociological Research Methods, Sociology of Deviance, PG and UG Disseration Supervision, Analysing Documents and Texts.
Sue's teaching reflects an interdisciplinary scope with responsibility for core sociological theory teaching in SOC2000 Social Knowledges and Perspectives SOC3090 Contemporary Sociological Theory. Sue also teaches POI3701 Mass Media, Politics and Democracy and SSC4350 Researching Documents and Texts and is the Module Leader for the Criminology UG Final Year Dissertation, CRM3994 and CRM3992 modules.
