Thinking of becoming a governor?
The Board of Governors of Middlesex University collectively oversees the activities of the institution, determining its future direction, ensuring the strategic plan and institutional mission are achieved, and cultivating an environment in which the potential of all students and other clients is maximised.
By becoming a member of the Board of Governors at Middlesex University you can add value to the institution by offering independent and constructive challenge to the operation of the Board, contributing towards the Board’s purpose to ensure that it delivers the University’s aims and targets, builds capability for the future, and maintains high standards of propriety.
We are ideally looking for members of our alumni who can demonstrate senior level commercial expertise preferably at Board level.
As a Governor, you will be expected to contribute in the following areas:
- Strategy:
Constructively challenge our Board and contribute to the development of strategy and business planning, including the setting and development of key objectives and targets.
Performance:
Scrutinise the performance of the University in meeting agreed goals and objectives, and monitor the reporting of performance.
- People:
Ability to work collaboratively with others on the Board and to foster and observe mutual respect.
- Governance:
Governors should satisfy themselves that governance, internal control and risk management systems are effective and capable of delivering relevant, accurate and timely management and financial information to the Board.
This is a voluntary unpaid role, where you give of your time and experience to benefit the development of the University.
Middlesex is a UK university, based in north London, with significant international credentials. It is committed to delivering outstanding higher education to any student with the ambition to learn and succeed, thus aiding strong and diverse economic growth. The University works in partnership, often with highly prestigious higher education partners, worldwide.
We require a committed individual who has the time to make a difference, and has the following attributes which will add value to our governing body:
Attributes
- A willingness to challenge assumptions
- A willingness to promote innovation
- A willingness to listen
- A desire to represent and help their community
- An ability to work in a team.
Applicants are welcome regardless of race, colour, nationality, ethnic or national origin, sex, disability, marital status, sexual orientation or religion. It is, in fact, important that governors represent all age groups and the diversity of the communities in which the University is represented.
What are the benefits?
The main benefit from being a governor is a sense of satisfaction through involvement in one of the most important volunteering roles in education. The collective decisions made by the governing body will help shape the future of Middlesex University.
If you believe you have the attributes to meet this challenge I warmly look forward to hearing from you.
Yours sincerely
Colin Hughes
