Certificate in Recycling for Sustainability

The Certificate in Recycling for Sustainability is a postgraduate level, work based, distance learning qualification designed to address the increasing need for people to deal with waste management and recycling matters at work. Course students do not attend classroom sessions but instead are expected to spend about two hours a week working through the five course workbooks. Following appropriate completion of the workbooks, and a course project, students will receive a Certificate in Recycling for Sustainability from Middlesex University (which also has CIWM accreditation) and 40 credits at postgraduate level. It is expected that the course will be completed over a nine to twelve month period.

The programme is aimed and designed for managers and supervisors in local authorities, businesses, and self-employed individuals, who have direct or indirect control or influence over the management of waste in their organisation.

There is no formal requirement for a university education prior to taking this programme. Middlesex University recognise that professional experience is an appropriate pre-requisite. Work based learning is suitable for all those who are working in a capacity that reflects knowledge and decision making commensurate with postgraduate study. This includes junior and middle managers of SMEs, staff and managers of organisations, and middle and senior managers in recycling industries. Experiential, practical and independent learning is acknowledged by Middlesex University.
