Research, knowledge and technology transfer
Research and consultancy
There are a wide variety of ways in which Middlesex University can help you with technical advice, applied research or consultancy to help grow your organisation.
We have research centres working across all our areas of expertise and these are supported by our Research and Business Office. This office can help you to develop profitable, ongoing, partnerships with the University’s research centres and provides a central point for all enquiries relating to the research capabilities and resources of the University. Email the Research and Business Office to find out ways in which the research work of the University could benefit your organisation.
Technology transfer
An experienced team of technology transfer executives, located in the University’s academic schools, add value to intellectual property through:
- knowledge of routes to commercialisation, and knowledge of supporting funding sources (public funds, pre-seed, seed, VC, Angel and others)
- intellectual property protection (through patenting, trade marking, copyright registration etc.)
- opportunity identification and selection
- expertise in framing commercial deals

Knowledge transfer
Knowledge transfer through collaborative research can be an effective means of meeting your business ambitions. Your organisation and a University department can work together in pursuit of mutually beneficial research objectives through a collaborative agreement.
A wide variety of funding schemes can support this kind of collaboration, including:
- Knowledge Transfer Partnerships
- DTI supported programmes
- CASE awards. These are awards allocated to UK-based companies who wish to support postgraduate (usually PhD) research in areas relevant to their work. Details are available at the websites of the Research Councils supporting the scheme:
BBSRC for the biological sciences
ESRC - for the social sciences
EPSRC for the engineering and physical sciences
STFC for for science and technology - A range of European and other publicly funded research programmes
