Uganda

Many Ugandan students have studied at Middlesex University particularly for postgraduate qualifications. Over recent years there has been a growth in the number of students taking up undergraduate studies. As for Kenyan students, Middlesex University has become a popular location for students from Uganda since the largest community connected with Uganda lives in North London near the Middleses campuses. The availability of food and other provisions is also a strong attraction.

In 2002 there were over twenty students from Uganda studying at Middlesex University. Most Ugandan students come for undergraduate studies in Business followed closely by Computing and IT. The AMBA accredited MBA is also sought after and other postgraduate students are on courses leading to qualifications in Human Resource Management, Financial Management, Marketing Management, and Business Information Technology. Recently there has been strong growth for the Arts, Environmental Studies and the Social Sciences.

Staff from the our Regional Office and the University visit Uganda at least once a year to meet students interested in studying in the UK.

Entry requirements

Undergraduate applicants

All applicants must demonstrate competence in the use of English Language. Grade "C" at "O" level in English Language are mandatory requirements. If you have not met these grades then you must obtain a grade 6.0 in IELTS or equivalent for undergraduate study.

Applicants to BA/BSc programmes must have passed "A" levels (please consult the office for grades for particular programmes), and also have grade "C" in English and Mathematics at "O" Level. Those with only one "A" level pass can obtain entry onto our diploma programmes. Students who complete the diploma programmes may progress to degree programmes.

Qualifications from the Uganda National Examinations Board are comparable to UK qualifications and the requirements are the same as above.

The International Baccalaureate is also accepted for undergraduate programmes (contact the Office for grades).

Candidates who wish to transfer to programmes at Middlesex University from other Ugandan universities must provide proof of qualifications and subject details including syllabi. Assessments are then conducted before a student is given an offer of a place.

Students with non-traditional qualifications are also considered for entry onto undergraduate programmes on years one, two, or three. For students seeking credits for prior study, comprehensive information including syllabi and certificates of qualifications are required for assessment. This may take time and applicants are requested to apply early. Applicants who have completed various stages of their studies from the following organizations are also accepted:

  • Association of Computer Professionals (ACP)
  • Association of Business Executives (ABE)
  • BTEC
  • IMIS
  • National Institute of Information Technology (NIIT)
