Overview & facilities
This MBA has been designed to meet the development and career needs of informatics professionals. It covers the full range of business areas that a manager in an information or IT related environment will need, along with specialist modules that will develop ability to make strategic decisions in informatics firms.
The MBA in Business Informatics is especially suitable for those with some experience in an IT or IS environment, and who wish to progress to strategic levels in the industry. Given the broad business education that the MBA provides, it creates opportunities in a wide range of IT/IS related roles.
How is the Middlesex MBA Business Informatics studied?
Currently this is a taught course requiring attendance each week. Some online modules are in the process of being developed, which will reduce the direct attendance requirement.
The course will be assessed by means of time controlled assessments, individual reports, group presentations, case study portfolios, and a business transformation project.
Who is the Middlesex MBA for?
Our MBA is designed for practising IT/IS managers who want to gain a generalist perspective on management. It has been developed for those wanting to develop their entrepreneurial and consultancy skills to progress in an established company or to set up an independent venture. It is an MBA for those who are serious about practice. We do not ask you to complete a dissertation, instead we have a project module worth one third of the course's credits which enhances your entrepreneurship skills or your ability to act as a consultant to your own or another organisation.
- Taught at our Hendon campus in north London.
- Being based in London, it allows you easy access to the world centre of the financial services sector.
- Emphasis on coaching and personal development for part-time students.
- A project-based MBA means that you undertake a significant project at the end of your taught content, rather than a dissertation. This could be a major business plan or new product/market proposal and can be done through a real company.
- Free Evening With the MBA events for MBA students, prospective students and Alumni to join together and learn from respected industry speakers. (Click the Events tab for more information)

Student and Alumni Profiles
Mitra Zall – MBA Student
"Throughout the MBA we had the opportunity to mix with the other cohort of students and meet MBA Alumni - this was a great experience. On the two day business simulation experience, we could mix with the other cohort, benchmark ourselves, and compare each other's knowledge. At the Alumni evenings we were able to have an insight into our prospective futures, I found this very motivationg."
Elizabeth Solaru – MBA Alumni
“I was an NHS laboratory manager but my career wasn’t moving as fast as I wanted. The Middlesex MBA suited me; It was a way to change direction. Throughout my first year I attended networking events; I met lots of people and I became interested in recruitment as a possible career path. After graduating I set up the Middlesex MBA Careers Service and was then invited to join a start-up recruitment company. I headed up their interim management division and brought its turnover to £2 to £3 million. I found the MBA gave me credibility as a recruitment consultant as I could talk to employers and candidates in-depth about any industry. I was also seconded to the Cabinet Office to set up a leadership programme, and now I am back in recruitment in a senior post. I’ve found that as an MBA you’re not just another head in the business; you’re seen as a strategic operator who can drive change. But it’s not the MBA, it’s the person behind the MBA that counts.”
Saif Khan - MBA
"I returned to my home country Pakistan after completing my studies. I currently work at Telenor as a Marketing Specialist. Telenor is the 7th largest telecom group in the world and has 16 million customers in Pakistan. My primary role there has been brand management, sponsorship events, viral marketing, out-of-home advertising, as well as many other projects.
During the time I have been at Telenor, the marketing department has won 3 major awards: SAARC Best Marketing/Consumer Pull Award (A competition held amongst 7 countries – around 50+ organisations in the Telecoms sector; Aurora Advertising Award 2007 – The best marketing team in Pakistan; and the Global Brand Award – held in 17 countries with Telenor Global group.
I have achieved a lot since joining the company: I was involved in establishing WAP as a communication platform through Telenor; I was involved in the creation of the first portal for youth in Pakistan (djuice); and I was awarded the title of ‘Telenor Value Agent’ in return of services for Telenor Pakistan.
My tutor on the MBA course had a major impact on my outlook towards life and profession. The confidence they gave me during the year I was at Middlesex was tremendous and I really appreciate it. I am now more assertive and outspoken and they have helped me so much in my line of work today."
