POSTGRADUATE APPLICATIONS

Applying for postgraduate study is unlike the process of applying for undergraduate study which is managed by UCAS the University and Colleges Application System. This page will help you make your application and give you all the key information you will need.

You have two choices of application route:

  1. Apply via our Online Postgraduate Application System. This is the quickest route to apply and once you have created your account and completed your application, you will be able to track the progress of your application online.
  2. Apply via our editable PDF application form. You can download and edit the General Application Form here, at the bottom of the form you will find instructions on how to send the form to us.

There are exceptions to this: Most postgraduate Masters applications can be made using the Online Postgraduate Application System or the editable PDF application form, however, certain programmes have different application routes that you must follow. Students who want to apply for a MA/PG Social Work, CPE Law, a postgraduate certificate in education, Project Management or a Research Degree will need to follow a different process. Information on applying for these courses is below.

It is advisable to apply at your earliest convenience because places do fill quickly. Applications can be submitted prior to receiving your final grades (this includes results for English language proficiency).

MAKING YOUR APPLICATION

Making your application carefully is very important and these steps will help you apply in the most effective way, giving you the greatest chance of success.

  1. Research the course you are interested in and make sure it's right for you, as courses with similar titles may have significantly varying content. A completely separate application will need to be submitted for any additional courses.
  2. Check you have the expected education qualifications and work experience by checking the entry requirements.
  3. Investigate our flexible learning options, as full and part time studying are a possibility for the majority of our postgraduate courses.
  4. Consider different funding options available.
  5. Check our information below on filling out your application.
  6. Get your qualifications together, so you don't have to spend much time looking around for the information you'll need to fill in the form about your education experience. You will also need to submit scanned copies of these later.
  7. The personal statement is your opportunity to convince admissions tutors why you should be made an offer to study. Check our information below on what outstanding personal statements include.
  8. Send all your supporting documents to us after completing the application, as this will prevent delays and we will not begin processing your application until we've received these documents.
  9. Successful applicants should read their offer letter carefully and contact us if anything is unclear.
  10. If you have any outstanding conditions on your offer notify us as soon as possible.

FILLING OUT YOUR APPLICATION FORM.

CHECKLIST FOR YOUR APPLICATION

  1. Complete application form fully including personal statement.
  2. Provide copies of all academic documentation, including transcripts and certificates (including English language qualifications for international students)
  3. Provide references and a copy of your resume/curriculum vitae if relevant to your application
  4. Provide a photocopy of the photograph and personal details pages of your passport
  5. For Art and Design applicants only: please also include a copy of your portfolio.

When filling in the application form, pay particular attention to the contact details that you supply. If you are likely to change postal or email address before starting your course try to submit more permanent details. All our admissions communications are sent via email so it is of vital importance that this information is as accurate as possible. Adding our email address to your inbox safe list is advisable.

WHAT TO INCLUDE IN YOUR PERSONAL STATEMENT

Outstanding personal statements often include the following:

  • Details that explain why your previous experience makes you a suitable candidate
  • Explanations of what you want to do after graduation with regards to where you see your career progressing after finishing your course.

To ensure your spelling is correct, we advise all applicants to write and spell check statements using a different computer program and then paste it onto the application. This is because there is no spell check facility with our online application form.

WHAT NEXT?

Once you have submitted your application you will receive an email from us to confirm that we have received it. Then it will be processed and sent to the academic tutor for review. If your application is missing any important documentation our admissions team will contact you prior to sending your application to the academic tutor. Once a decision has been made you will receive notification from our admissions office and this process normally takes no longer than 4-6 weeks providing you have sent all requested documentation with your application.
