Tourism and hospitality management is a fast-paced and competitive market. This course will develop the knowledge and management skills required for your future hospitality or tourism career whilst providing the context and the socio-political analysis that is increasingly needed in a continually changing and complex environment.
The hospitality and tourism industries have become two of the major players in international commerce. It is for this reason we deliver practice based teaching that will equip you for employment in the fields of have hospitality, leisure, events and tourism, and planning and regeneration.
Our course provides you with a solid grounding in the contemporary theory of this subject area, whilst also providing a range of practical, research and management skills for your future career growth. You will develop a critical awareness of current issues ranging from political, organisational, marketing and community perspectives. As an internationally focused university, we boast an international teaching team, international guest speakers, national and international field trips, and an international seminar series.
You will study our MA in International Tourism and Hospitality Management three days a week at our London based campus. Each module comprises two to three hours weekly contact via lecture/seminar or workshop activities/tutorials and the occasional field trip. Our MA programme can be studied in one year full-time, or two years part-time. In addition to your chosen modules, you will be asked to complete a 60 credit contextual research methods and dissertation module that will require you to submit a research report on an approved topic. Part-time students will study four modules in their first year and undertake the two remaining 15 credits modules and the research dissertation in your second year of study.
The focus for the term-long modules will be on providing opportunities for you to acquire specialist knowledge in areas such as event management and sustainable tourism and relate these to the wider framework of other course modules. The dissertation module will provide you with support and guidance throughout the workings of your individual project.

You will attend workshops, seminars and lectures, and further your understanding through class discussions and work on case studies. In your own time you will use online learning resources and do your own research, directed reading and independent study – there will be some sessions on research methods. Some coursework and research will be done in groups. You will also work on your own dissertation.
As well as hearing talks by guest speakers from the industry, you will be able to visit industry events like World Travel Market.
You will be assessed through exams and your dissertation, as well as other pieces of individual and group coursework and presentations. You will receive regular feedback on your work throughout the course, including your assessed coursework.
