Leading with this quantitative and systematic approach ensures that the topics and knowledge you engage with is relevant to the working practices of and challenges faced by modern managers.
You will explore the emerging issues and developments in contemporary management practice and learn how to apply decision making and problem solving techniques to challenges in business management. Our academics also deliver a broad base of expertise from, managing SMEs and supply chain management to strategic marketing and innovation. Complementing this academic learning is activity which enhances an understanding of practice, ranging from talks by practitioners and training on industry standard software.
With four compulsory course modules covering areas of contemporary management, finance, strategy, decision making and operations the course embeds core knowledge that gives you a base from which to gain a deep understanding of the fundamentals of management. From this point you will select from a range of optional modules, taking an active role in guiding your learning along a path that is relevant to your interests and career aims.
The final element of the course is a dissertation project whereby you will develop further the skills and knowledge gained by applying them to a specific management issue or problem. This will demonstrate your proficiency in relation to scoping the issue(s)/problems, consideration of appropriate literature, collection and analysis of data, management of the change process and justifying specific recommendations or conclusions.

This module builds students knowledge of contemporary management including organisational issues, practices, and management challenges, as well as developing students skills in applying that knowledge to practice with specific reference to enhancing organisational effectiveness.
This module aims to inform students of the key developments in, and thinking derived from, the study of strategy and finance by exploring models, tools and theories used in strategy and finance and their application in a business context. It enables students to critically appraise where and when such models, tools and theories are effective. A key aim of this module is to achieve a balance between theory and practice and to use strategic and financial tools to address the level of complexity and uncertainty facing organisations.
This module equips future managers with the quantitative tools to help them make rational decisions under uncertain conditions. The module develops students ability to apply statistical techniques to a wide range of business and management problems in a structured way. Students will gain an appreciation of the appropriateness of different techniques in a given situation. The module develops the students understanding of the tools and their application with use of software packages and SPSS.
This module aims to develop students knowledge and understanding of the concepts, tools and methodologies of operations management. Students will develop critical and analytical insights into current operations management practices, explore the priorities and techniques of operations management and employ these to the design, operation and control of business processes.
This module aims to develop students understanding of the key principles of product and service development and innovation management, and enhances their ability to put into practice these concepts. The module provides students with a core understanding of how product and service development contributes to the success of a firm and enables students to critically evaluate what is required to develop and deliver successful marketing strategies for innovative new products and services.
This module aims to present the international nature of business supply chains and how companies work in a global marketplace. Students develop a critical understanding of the theories and practices of how companies grow and manage their global supply chains. The module enhances students understanding of business competitiveness in global marketplaces. Students will be taught the underlying theories that will enable them to evaluate the choices given by organizations and how these are linked to the management of these international networks.
This module aims to develop students skills and knowledge to work with a diverse set of management models through case study materials which will be presented with a specific set of objectives, context and resources. Participants will develop the ability to deploy management models effectively to provide solutions to organisational management problems.
This module introduces students from a variety of backgrounds and with different career ambitions to the project management techniques and how they are used across a range of sectors to realise strategic corporate objectives. In particular, the module aims to: - offer a comprehensive account of project management, programme management and project portfolios, based on a combination of scholarly work and professional practice - develop students understanding of strategic project management and systems design processes - outline and develop skills in professional techniques used in project closure and evaluation - introduce and evaluate critical success factors for projects
This module provides students with a means of developing further the skills and knowledge gained on MSc Management, by application to a specific organisational issue or problem. It enables students to demonstrate proficiency in the design of a business enhancement project, application of appropriate methods of investigation, management of the change process, and maintenance of vision in the face of the vicissitudes of business realities.

You will attend lectures, including talks by guest speakers, as well as seminars and workshops, some of which will focus on research methods. These sessions will involve peer group interaction and aim to sharpen both your critical and analytical skills. You will also work on case studies to enhance understanding of practice situations and undertake directed reading and study, including online activity.
A combination of exams plus individual and group coursework are the main modes of assessment on this course. You will receive regular feedback on your coursework and the dissertation project is a key element of the assessed work you will undertake.
