Overview & facilities
This extremely popular and professional course considers marketing from the perspective of the entrepreneurial company as well as the multi-national corporation. The Masters provides an integrated study of the theory and practice of effective and successful strategic marketing management. Through this specialised course we prepare you for interesting and varied careers as marketing executives and managers.
The Programme has a clear focus on experiential learning where practical application of theory allows students to gain a deeper understanding of contemporary marketing issues by developing skills in strategic analysis, problem-solving and decision making.
A unique feature of the Programme is the residential field trip, where students are exposed marketing practitioners from large multi nationals through to not-for-profit organisations and small entrepreneurs. You will have the opportunity to develop your knowledge and skills in particular specialised areas of marketing through optional modules and thesis selection, whilst also studying the core components of marketing management, such as integrated marketing communication, marketing research, marketing strategy and event marketing.
The programme attracts students from a variety of academic disciplines and cultural backgrounds as a result the richness of classroom discussions is significantly enhanced as students approach contemporary marketing issues from a range of different perspectives and viewpoints.
You can start in September or January. Full-time students usually attend three days a week and part-time students, two days a week.

Nearest halls of residence
There are four halls of residence either on or near to Hendon campus. Usher Hall is on campus, opposite the College Building.
Platt and Writtle Halls are at the same location in Colindale, a 20 minute walk from campus.
Ivy Hall is also a short distance away by public transport in Cricklewood.

- Year 1
- Creative Communication Strategies (30 Credits) - Optional
- This module aims to promote creative advertising practices to enhance Brand Strategies which are creative and innovative, and to provide critical understanding of concepts, frameworks, and models for understanding and thinking about creativity and innovation in brand development of new and existing products and services. Also, to explore the processes, tools and techniques for developing creativity and innovation in the marketing of products and services, from an individual, team and organisational level in response to assigned Creative Briefs. To focus on the unleashing of creative ideas in marketing teams to building innovative marketing environments which will release the individuals creative energy and the collective energy of the team for competitive gain and profit of business.
- Dissertation MM (60 Credits) - Compulsory
- This module aims to develop your ability to produce independent research in the academic and practical discipline of marketing. By undertaking the process of researching and writing a dissertation or applied project independently you will gain practical competence in the application of research methods, while adding to your knowledge and understanding of your chosen area of marketing.
- Entrepreneurship, Innovation and Small Business Marketing (30 Credits) - Optional
- Entrepreneurship is seen as involving two vital ingredients: innovation and creativity - but with that little extra push to achieve. This module is designed to foster entrepreneurial talent and encourage and develop entrepreneurial/ small business management skills through the review and application of theory and practice in the field. The diversity of entrepreneurship in today s dynamic commercial and social environments will be highlighted, incorporating the application of the latest E-marketing strategies. Students will be challenged to think and act entrepreneurially with the objective of being in a position to start their own business or being able to bring an entrepreneurial approach to existing organisations. It also aims to make them aware of opportunities in the market place and generate a can do mentality - one that empowers students and shows them that they can shape their own destinies.
- Managing and Marketing Events (30 Credits) - Compulsory
- The module is designed to cover a range of issues related to the theory and practice of events marketing. Students will develop a critical understanding of managing and marketing events in a wide range of contexts including the field of sport, film, as well as arts and culture. At the end of the module, students will be able to demonstrate their learning through a practical approach by designing effective event brand communication strategies which reach desired target audiences in the leisure market.
- Marketing Research (30 Credits) - Compulsory
- This module aims to develop the students ability to evaluate and interpret market intelligence reports, prepare market research proposal, critically analyse both primary and secondary data, and prepare a market research report in order to assist decision-making and strategy development.
- Strategic Marketing Management (30 Credits) - Compulsory
- This module aims to provide you with a framework for analysing marketing processes from a strategic and managerial perspective in a diverse range of organisations. In particular, the module will focus on the development and implementation of marketing strategies to help organisations gain a competitive advantage in a highly volatile operating environment.
Marketing is a key management discipline that impacts on all of an organisation's activities. This course covers a broad range of marketing-related issues, concepts, and theories. You also have the choice to develop your knowledge and skills in particular specialised areas of marketing. You will learn how to deal with complex issues in a dynamic business environment. You will study marketing strategy as a key business tool, including an analysis of the core components of marketing management, such as marketing communications, market research, consumer behaviour and product/brand management.
September start students
The programme has four compulsory modules: Contemporary Marketing Strategy; Research in Marketing; Branding and Consumer Behaviour and Dissertation module. September start students also take one optional module.
January Start students
The programme has five compulsory modules: Contemporary Marketing Strategy; Research in Marketing; Branding and Consumer Behaviour; Contemporary issues in Marketing and Dissertation module.
Our marketing lecturers are experts in B2B marketing, product development, customer relationship management and product placement.
Most modules are assessed by coursework and/or an examination. Case studies are used extensively.
Entry & applying
Normally a second class honours degree or above in any discipline, or overseas equivalent qualification. We also consider applicants without a degree who have extensive minimum three years managerial experience in sales or marketing.
Standard Entry Requirements
The course is designed for graduates of any discipline who wish to become marketers. Normally a second class honours degree or above in marketing, communications, or a business related field, or an overseas equivalent, or a professional qualification of an equivalent standard is required. You are welcome to apply if you do not have a formal qualification but have extensive marketing experience.
International entry requirements

English language requirements
You must have competence in English language and we normally require Grade C GCSE or an equivalent qualification. The most common English Language requirements for international students are IELTS 6.5 (with minimum 6.0 in all four components) or TOEFL paper based 575 (no less than 4.5 in test of written English) or TOEFL internet based 90 (with no less than 19 in each component) Middlesex also offers an Intensive Academic English course (Pre-Sessional) that ranges from 5-17 weeks, depending on your level of English. What can you do with a Marketing degree?
Our MA Marketing Management course prepares graduates for a wide range of marketing careers or for further study at postgraduate level. A marketing degree opens up a whole range of career opportunities, usually commanding good salaries.
Students who graduate from this specialism move into careers in product and service organisations, in public, private and not-for-profit sectors. Our graduates pursue careers in all aspects of marketing including marketing research, product development, brand management, integrated marketing communications and retailing.

Marketing Executive
Most marketing executives work for in-house marketing departments in all kinds of organisations in the private and public sectors. They are involved in aspects of marketing, including: planning; advertising; promotion; public/media relations; product development; distribution; sponsorship; and research.
Marketing executives may also be known as Marketing Assistants or Coordinators.
Market researcher
A market researcher's role is to gather, record and analyse data about customers, competitors and the market. They collect data from a variety of sources and use it to enable informed decision-making. They help create business plans, launch a new product or service, fine tune existing products and services, expand into new markets etc.
Market Research Interviewer
Market research interviewers ask questions to uncover people's attitudes and experiences on a wide range of subjects for market research agencies and social research organisations. Work is office based for conducting telephone interviews, or outdoors in all weathers for home visits or on-street interviewing e.g. public places such as shopping areas.
Account Executive
An account executive ensures the smooth running of a campaign and co-ordinates the diverse activities that contribute to it. They are involved in devising, developing and implementing ideas for promotional marketing campaigns, acting as the link between an advertising agency and the client. They usually handle three to four non-competing accounts at the same time.
Advertising Copywriter
Advertising copywriters work in partnership with an art director to conceive, develop and produce written words or 'copy' for advertisements, such as original slogans and text for printed ads and leaflets, and scripts and jingles for TV and radio commercials. This involves coming up with original catchphrases, slogans, messages and strap lines as well as writing all the wording in any type of advertising.
