Overview & facilities

This course is underaken on a part-time basis, is modular and enables opportunities to Accreditation for Prior Learning (APL) in modules or qualifications from previously approved Social Work post qualifying frameworks.The Graduate Diploma Post Qualifying Specialist Social Work Award (Children and Families) is a 120 credit course at Level 3. APL arrangements are available for up to two thirds of this award for candidates who have successfully completed parts of the previous social work post qualifying framework. Candidates can only APL a maximum of 75 credits out of the potential 120 credits of the award. This means that the sequence of studying modules might vary between students. Staff advice will be available for those students who can provide certificated learning under the old framework. On completion of this course you will receive the award, have enhanced employment prospects and be able to supervise a social work qualifying student on placement. The course will benefit individuals working in Child Protection and Safeguarding; Looked After Children; Children in Need; Referral and Assessment; Disabled Children; Leaving Care and Asylum; CAMHS.

Social work is a regulated profession. As a social work student you will be expected to register with the General Social Care Council (GSCC), the social work profession’s regulator, and adhere to the standards set out in the Code of Practice for Social Workers.
