    Pre-sessional English

    Pre-Sessional academic English language courses

Our pre-sessional academic English courses are designed to enhance your language and study skills in order to successfully progress onto a Middlesex degree. Please see our brochure for more details.

We run two types of courses depending on your desired entry level, undergraduate or postgraduate. The course structure and content will enable you to commence a degree without needing to take any further English language qualifications like IELTS.

We are proud to say our courses are accredited by the British Association of Lecturers in English for
Academic Purposes (BALEAP). BALEAP sets rigorous criteria to ensure that courses in English language and study skills for speakers of other languages are of a high standard, and provide an excellent quality of service for their students.

Our students can choose between a variety of accommodation options including halls of residence, homestay or private housing in London.

Who are the pre-sessional courses for?

These courses are suitable for students who do not speak English as their first language but would like to study at Middlesex. We offer various entry points so if you have a higher level of English you will be able to do a shorter course.

    Courses on offer

    • Pre-sessional academic English courses for undergraduates
    • Pre-sessional academic English courses for postgraduates

    Dates for courses

    • Summer (May, June, July, August) - for students who plan to start their Middlesex degree in September. In addition, we offer a longer 30 week course, starting in January, for students who wish to combine more thorough development of their general English ability with improvement of their academic English skills
    • Autumn/Winter (September, October, November) - for students who plan to start their Middlesex degree in January

    Post-course English support

We also offer free English language and learning support after you complete the Pre-Sessional course and progress onto a Middlesex degree. This means that when you join us for one of our courses, this will begin a relationship that will last right up to your graduation.
