Where is Middlesex University?
Middlesex University is based in north London across three campuses as well as two offshore in Dubai and Mauritius.
Does Middlesex organise an orientation programme for Study Abroad students?
Yes, details for this are sent to you upon confirming your acceptance with us. The International Orientation Programme fee is included in the tuition fees paid by Study Abroad students and the programme is free to all exchange students.
How do I get to Middlesex University when I arrive?
We provide an airport 'meet and greet' service from Heathrow which is free of charge when you register for our International Orientation Programme. You are accompanied directly from the airport to your halls of residence and helped to settle in. Please see our pre-arrival section for maps of the campuses which are useful if you are arriving independently.
What subjects can I study?

How do I select classes?
First of all you should make your choice using our course directory and then gain approval from your home institution’s academic advisor. Usually your advisor decides if you will be entitled to receive credit for your semester at Middlesex.
How do I apply?
How many classes do I need to take at Middlesex for a semester long programme?
Each 30 credit class transfers as 6-8 US credit hours or 15 ECTS. During a typical academic year you would usually take 120 credits which are equal to 24-32 US credits. 120 credits usually translate into 4 courses. In some cases students are able to take 3 courses; however this needs to be approved by your home university.
When will I receive my class timetable?
Upon online enrolment, your timetables can be viewed via your personnal Middlesex Information page: Middlesex Integrated Student Information System (MISIS). This is usually available a week or two before the start of teaching.
How many hours a week will I have to study?
Class time depends on your subject area but you should expect to have at least 12 hours of class contact time per week, plus a substantial amount of time required for independent study and completing your assessments.
How will I be taught?
Middlesex University provides a lecture and seminar format for its teaching. In lectures, you will learn the content of the subject with the rest of the class. Seminars allow you to discuss the content in smaller groups with the subject leaders.
How will I be assessed?
Year long students will be assessed with exams as well as coursework.

For up to date information, please visit www.ukvisas.gov.uk. In some cases, non-European Union students may be required to apply for a student visa. In other cases, some students are granted a visitor pass which is valid for 6 months.
Can I apply to Middlesex, even if there isn't an existing Study Abroad agreement with my home school?
Yes, the Study Abroad Programme is open to all international students.
How do I apply and pay for accommodation?
You can apply for a place in our halls of residence and pay your deposit and rent electronically.
Does Middlesex guarantee accommodation for Study Abroad students?
Yes, as long as the housing application is made before the application deadline. (For September intake the deadline is 1 August, and for the January intake the deadline is 1 December).
What accommodation is available at Middlesex?
We offer self-catering accommodation for over 1300 students within our six halls of residence. Depending on your base campus, you will either have a study bedroom with en-suite facilities, or halls with shared kitchens and bathrooms. You will not have to share your bedroom.
Is there internet access in the rooms?
Yes, all rooms have internet plug-in points.
What other expenses do I need to allow for?

What happens if I’m sick during my study abroad?
By registering with a doctor upon arrival, a qualified professional will be available to see you in an emergency. It is easy to register, and this information will be given to you during our Orientation Programme.

What if I have problems or need help?
General student support is available on each campus, and regular drop-in sessions are run by the International Student Liaison. You can also make appointments to see qualified confidential counsellors if required.

Are there any clubs I can join?
Yes, and during induction week you will get the opportunity to visit the Freshers Fair which offers a plethora of Student Clubs and Societies available for you to join. You can even start one of your own with help from the Middlesex University Students’ Union (MUSU).
