Pre-Sessional English language courses

Our Academic English Courses are designed to enhance your language and study skills in order to successfully progress onto a Middlesex degree.

We run two types of courses depending on your desired entry level, undergraduate or postgraduate. The course structure and content will enable you to commence a degree without needing any English language qualifications like IELTS or TOEFL.

Students studying on our Academic English Course have full access to the University's libraries, computer and language laboratories and sport facilities. Students can also choose between a variety of accommodation options including, on-campus halls of residence, homestay or private housing in London.

IELTS preparation courses

We offer regular short IELTS preparation courses for anyone who is taking the IELTS test at our IELTS Testing Centre.

Who are the pre-sessional courses for?

These courses are suitable for students who do not speak English as their first language but would like to study at Middlesex. You need a minimum IELTS level of 4.5 before starting the course. We offer various entry points so if you have a higher IELTS level you will be able to do a shorter course.

What courses do we offer?

Intensive Academic English Course for undergraduates Intensive Academic English Course for postgraduates.

When do you offer the courses?

Summer (May, June, July, August) - for students who plan to start their Middlesex degree in September.
Autumn/Winter (September, October, November) - for students who plan to start their Middlesex degree in January.

Post-course English support

We also offer free English language and learning support after you complete the Pre-Sessional English Language Course and progress onto a Middlesex degree. This means that when you join us for one of our Academic English Courses, this will begin a relationship that will last right up to your graduation.
