Summer Package dates -  30 June to 8 August

The programme begins with a three day induction and orientation programme. Included is an airport pickup from Heathrow and a welcome evening. The following days include a university orientation, tour of London, a trip on the London Eye and other orientation events. This gives you an opportunity to spend time familiarising yourself with the campus, local area and Central London, as well as getting to know your fellow students. We do not offer a return airport trip for departures but Summer School staff will be happy to help you arrange this.

Events

Off-campus events are organised each week; for example, day trips to places like Bath, Brighton, Stonehenge, Windsor Castle and Hampton Court Palace. In addition there are free on campus entertainment nights every week. Our friendly Summer School staff are on hand to advise on other activities, giving a real insight to the city from a student's perspective, or to help you with individual travel plans within the UK and Europe.  For more details of the exciting programme on offer download our calendar of events.

Accommodation

Our accommodation comprises of conveniently located halls of residence that are on Trent Park Campus itself. These are basic single study bedrooms with Internet connection points and shared bathroom and kitchens. All residences have public phones and access to laundry facilities and TV lounges. Access into halls is controlled by combination door locks and all halls have night security staff.

Credit transfer to other universities

The European Credit Transfer System has been developed to simplify credit transfer between universities throughout the EU. For students from the United States, 15 Middlesex credit points are equivalent to 4 North American credit points.

It is often possible to transfer credits earned at Middlesex University Summer School to degree programmes at other universities in the UK and many other countries. Please note that the acceptance of credits is at the discretion of individual institutions and, in the case of some countries, there may be no system for this in place.

You should check with your home institution that the credit is transferable and the module is appropriate for your study programme before applying.

Three week Summer Package

A number of courses are available to students who wish to attend a shorter programme. These are all timetabled to run from 5 to 16 July and are specially selected because they are not assessed by exam, leaving you free to depart before the exam period. As all these courses are assessed by coursework, time is built in towards the end of your programme to allow you to prepare for submission of your coursework before you leave on 21 July. Airport Pickup Service

Arriving in a new country for the first time can be daunting. Our free airport pick up service is offered from London Heathrow Airport between 7am and 4pm on 30 June, providing a meet and greet by Summer School Staff and transfers from the airport to Trent Park Campus throughout the day.

Orientation Programme

On arrival at Trent Park, you will move into your accommodation and complete your enrolment as a student at Middlesex University. A Welcome Reception with buffet and live music follows in the evening. A number of exciting events, including a Panoramic Tour of Central London and a flight on the world famous London Eye, follow over the next couple of days. These will allow you to meet your fellow students and familiarise yourself with central London, the local area and the campus, before teaching starts.

The Academic Programme

Classes are structured on either a lecture, seminar or workshop basis. The programme is designed to allow you sufficient time to spend on independent study, which is a key feature of the UK higher education system. So, apart from the time you spend in classes, you should also spend an appropriate amount of time out of class preparing for your next class and working on assignments and studying for exams where necessary. Both programmes have some time built in for independent study once classes have ended.

Tuition fees are included in the package price. If you wish to transfer credits to your home institution, the usual equivalence is as follows:

  • 15 MU credits – 4 US/7.5 ECTS
  • 30 MU credits – 8 US/15 ECTS

You should confirm with your home institution that you will be able to transfer credit and that your course choices are appropriate to your programmes of study before applying. Please note that courses pre-fixed with the code SUM are for general interest and do not carry university credit. They are not appropriate for academic programmes of study.

Accommodation

This is included in the cost of the Summer Package. All of our rooms are for single occupancy, so you will not share your room with another student.

Meal plan

In order to make life easier for you, two meals a day, Monday to Friday are included. Weekends are self catering. There is a twice weekly free bus service which transports you to and from the local supermarket, enabling you to stock up on all your grocery requirements.

Travelcard

A prepaid Oyster Card with starter credit is included, giving up to 50% discount on travel on the underground and buses throughout Greater London.

Social Programme

An exciting calendar of events is included and runs throughout the programme, enabling you to explore London and other parts of the UK and sample British culture. A number of organised trips are offered each week which are included in the programme fee. We also hold weekly, fun on campus social events, allowing you to socialise with other students. For details of our social programme please click here.

You may also use your stay in London as an opportunity to plan your own trips around the UK and to other European destinations, taking advantage of the cheap airfares available. To facilitate this, the programme includes some free time. Our friendly staff are on hand to provide advice about activities in London as well as travel within the UK and Europe.

Assessment and transcripts

You will receive an official Middlesex University transcript for credited courses at the end of September. Exams take place on Friday 6 August. If your course includes an exam element, please ensure that you have not booked your return flight until at least 7 August.
