Airport Pickup Service

We understand how important it is to ensure your arrival on campus is as smooth as possible. Our free airport pick up service is offered from London Heathrow Airport between 7am and 4pm on 3 July providing a meet and greet by Summer School Staff and transfers from the airport to Trent Park campus throughout the day.

Orientation Programme

On arrival at Trent Park, you will move into your accommodation and complete your enrolment as a student at Middlesex University.  A welcome reception with buffet and live music follows in the evening. A number of exciting events, including a panoramic tour of central London, a walking tour of Hampstead and a trip to historic Oxford follow over the next couple of days. These will allow you to meet your fellow students and familiarise yourself with London, the local area and the campus, before teaching starts.

Social and Cultural Programme

An exciting calendar of events runs throughout the programme, allowing you to explore London and other parts of the UK and experience British culture. A number of trips are offered each week which are included in the programme fee. We also hold fun campus social events, allowing you to socialise with other students.

In addition, London is hosting the 2012 summer Olympics from 27 July to 12 August.  There will be a carnival atmosphere in the city with many activities and free events including street performers and musicians. The Olympic torch will travel all over London in the days before the opening ceremony. You will also have access to large public viewing areas in major parks where you can join crowds of people watching on large screens for a truly unforgettable experience.

Many of our students also use their stay in London as an opportunity to plan their own trips around the UK and other European countries, taking advantage of the geographical proximity of London to popular destinations. Our staff are on hand to provide advice about activities in London as well as travel within the UK and Europe.

Accommodation

This is included in the cost of the Summer Package. All of our rooms are for single occupancy, so you will not share your room with another student. For more information see our accommodation pages.

Meal plan

In order to make life easier for you, two meals a day, Monday to Friday are included. Weekends are self catering. There is a twice weekly free bus service which transports you to and from the local supermarket, enabling you to stock up on all your grocery requirements.

Travel card

A prepaid Oyster Card with starter credit is included, giving up to 50% discount on travel on the underground and buses throughout Greater London.

The Academic Programme

Classes are structured on either a lecture, seminar or workshop basis. You can choose any of the courses which run from 5 July to 3 August, to fit your interests and programmes of study. The programme is designed to allow you sufficient time to spend on independent study, which is a key feature of the UK higher education system. So, apart from the time you spend in classes, you should also spend an appropriate amount of time out of class preparing for your next class and working on assignments and studying for exams where necessary. The programme has some time built in for independent study once classes have ended.

Please note that courses pre-fixed with the code SUM are for general interest and do not carry university credit. They are not appropriate for academic programmes of study.

Transfer of Credit to Your Institution

It is often possible to transfer credits earned at Middlesex to a programme at another university within the UK and in many other countries.  You should confirm with your home institution that you will be able to transfer credit and that your course choices are appropriate to your programmes of study before applying.

Assessment and transcripts

You will receive an official Middlesex University transcript for credited courses at the end of September. Exams take place on Monday 6 August. If your course includes an exam element, please ensure that you have not booked your return flight until you have taken your exam.
