Many of our students sign up for one of our exciting packages. There are three or five week options and offer excellent value and include tuition fees, accommodation in halls of residence, an extensive calendar of cultural and social events designed to help you make the most of your summer while exploring London and the UK. There are other benefits included, such as an Oyster travel card.
Our credit-bearing courses are worth either 15 or 30 credit points, based on the standard Middlesex University 120-credit academic year. They offer the opportunity to earn credits towards qualifications at Middlesex, as well as many other colleges and universities in the UK and around the world.
All accredited courses meet the high quality standards necessary for university approval and have been approved by external quality organisations (the Quality Assurance Agency for Higher Education, Ofsted or professional bodies).
Please note: due to the intensive nature of Summer School teaching, students are not permitted to take more than 30 credits during the summer.
Assessment requirements vary, but they are usually based on a combination of coursework and examination – although some are just one or the other. Please see individual course descriptions for more information.
Summer School examinations take place on Monday 1 August 2016. It is your responsibility to ensure that you are available for your exam.
Results will be published online on the student portal (called myUnihub) on 13 September 2016. Exernal students who take credit-bearing courses will receive an official transcript or credit statement in mid-October.
It is often possible to transfer credits earned at Middlesex University to a programme at another university within the UK, as well as in many other countries.
Europe: The European Credit Transfer System has been developed to simplify credit transfer between universities throughout the EU. Using this system, 15/30 Middlesex credits equates to 7.5/15 ECTS credits.
United States: For students from the USA, 15/30 Middlesex credit points are approximately equivalent to 4/8 North American credit points.
Please note, the acceptance of credits is at the discretion of individual institutions. You should check with your home institution that the credit is transferable and that the course is appropriate for your study programme before applying.
"The tutors made sure the course was exciting and fun, I feel totally empowered!" Nadia Orgill, UK (Classroom Presence course)
Of course, you may choose to study one of our courses, purely for the interest value, rather than any academic credits. And you'd be very welcome to do so. You won't be assessed, if you'd prefer, but where assessment is based on group work, all students are required to contribute for the benefit of the whole group.
A Certificate of Attendance will be awarded to those who take classes for interest only.
Some of our Summer School courses are designed as pathways onto degrees at Middlesex University. These are especially useful for students who don't have the formal qualifications required to study at undergraduate level.
The following courses provide access routes onto our degree programmes:
SUM0043 Music Access
SUM0046 Music Industry and Management
BA Music Business and Arts Management
SUM0071 Popular Music
BMus Popular Music
