The Grove- Art, Design, Media and Performing Arts building
Our Art, Design and Media students are based in The Grove, the brand new building on our Hendon campus. Whether your interests lie in art, fashion, film, design, television production or photography, dance, music or theatre, the new spaces and studios are fully equipped to help you express your creativity.
Your creative hub
The world-renowned BPR Architects designed The Grove with a two-fold purpose- to provide top class teaching spaces and pleasant social surroundings. The building has open space and parkland on two sides and we are investing here too, with better paths, terraces and landscaping. Overall we are investing around £80 million on this project.
World class design: architecture that can inspire our most creative students
- The Grove is of ‘world class design’, according to the Greater London Authority.
- The centrepiece of the building is an atrium - a huge public space, flooded with natural light that will be by turns a social hub, an exhibition space, a place to study and home to exciting events.
- Walls can be shifted to create atmospheric exhibition spaces and fashion show locations.
- A second, smaller, atrium provides a social meeting space.
- There will be multi-functional lecture and tutorial spaces with automated foldable partitions to achieve bespoke teaching spaces.
- The building will include a range of environmental features to reduce energy consumption, including efficient heat pumps and solar panels.

TV and film production suite
Sony is designing the TV production suite for us with two TV studios at its centre.
The main TV studio will be outfitted with six HD digital camera chains and will be fully supported with a state-of-the-art lighting grid. The dimmer room, sound, lighting and production galleries will be able to run either or both studios and the cameras can be deployed to either. Media will be recorded to, and played back from, central storage which will be shared with post production.
The seven analogue camera chains and supporting equipment along with our lights and dimmers will be available as an OB unit to cover events around the Hendon campus.
We will fully support location filming with HD XD Cams
, location sound and lights and post-production will be catered for with twelve self-contained editing suites..
Other highlights include the state-of-the-art motion capture-dedicated media studio, a digital media workshop and 15 video bays (including High Spec Video Editing Suite).
