Existing level qualifications
In 2008 the government announced that it would no longer provide funding to support universities teaching students with higher education qualifications that are equivalent, or lower than, their existing qualifications.
This means that it is necessary for universities to charge a higher fee to ELQ students in order to meet the shortfall in funding.
In order to reduce the sudden impact of this change, Middlesex University did not charge higher fees to these students for the September 2008 and September 2009 intake. However, after much consideration, the fees for UK/EU ELQ students starting in September 2010 will now be £5000.
There are some qualifications that are exempt from the withdrawal of government funding including; Foundation degrees, Postgraduate Certificate in Education (PGCE), Initial Teacher Training (ITT). Some health related subjects are also exempt such as Nursing and Midwifery and Social Work.
Please note the importance of submitting all previous qualifications so that we can assess if you are an ELQ student and confirm your fee before you begin your studies.
If you think that you may be affected by this new ruling please urgently check with your funding body about your eligibility for loans, grants and fees. You will need to consider your financial situation before you decide whether you can support yourself through your studies.
