Overview & facilities
This brand new degree is the only BA Honours available in the UK specifically aimed at busy personal assistants wanting to develop their career.
This innovative degree has been designed exclusively for those already working as Personal or Executive Assistants. Working with the Association of Personal Assistants (APA), which has accredited the programmes, the Business School has created a flexible programme of study which will fit within your busy schedule.
The course involves a combination of distance learning with work-based learning. The distance learning components involve a blend of electronic learning and private study, whilst the work based learning components will involve you in learning from your professional work. In this way you will economise on the amount of time that you devote to your learning, focus on learning that is directly applicable to your work, and be able also to give something back to your employer or principal.
The BA covers the full range of business disciplines, but does so in a manner that enables participants to apply these to their developing roles as PAs or ExecAs. On completion of the course you will be able to lend valuable support to your line manager or principal in virtue of skills such as financial analysis, project management and market development.

Distance Learning
The collection of Distance Education activities and resources that will be provided for you represents a carefully designed blend of work you will do on your own, online activities that you will do for feedback, formal assessments, and collaborative learning with other members of the programme, which will generally include some online communication and discussion.
You will be provided with all the necessary materials and guides for study. The basis for the structure of learning will be the form in which the materials appear on the University’s Virtual Learning Environment, OASISplus, which will be the main medium of your learning.
You will have access to an online tutor for each module, who will be available for direct real-time support should you need it, and at other times on a asynchronous communication basis. This tutor will facilitate discussions, answer queries on any of the content, and give advice on assessments. Additional support will be provided by module leaders, the programme coordinator and the programme leader.
You will also have access to the University’s helpdesk who will be able to help you with any technical difficulties should these arise, as well as the Business School's library liaison officer.
There will not be any examinations requiring attendance at a venue. We will, however, have certain online time-controlled tests in some modules. You will be required to take these within a specific time period, though as they will be online you will be able to complete them at a location of your choice.
