The BSc (Hons) Acupuncture degree course at Middlesex University, London, is a unique training programme in the UK which combines acupuncture with Tuina techniques (Chinese medicinal massage).
This BSc (Hons) Acupuncture degree course aims to provide an education and training to produce graduates who will be competent, safe and caring practitioners in acupuncture and tuina. During this three year acupuncture degree course training you will be given a thorough grounding in the principles and applications of acupuncture, including the following aspects:
- Theory of Yin &Yang, five elements, tongue diagnosis, pulse diagnosis etc.
- Meridians, acupuncture points and traditional needling techniques.
- Moxibustion, cupping, electro-acupuncture, ear acupuncture and scalp acupuncture.
- Tuina techniques (Chinese medicinal massage) and commonly seen clinical conditions underpinned by knowledge and understanding of current Western medical practices.
Based at our Archway Campus in London, you will benefit from our specialist Archway Healthcare Library and dedicated facilities for laboratory work and clinical skills, including our acupuncture teaching clinic (Asante Academy of Chinese Medicine) and NHS acupuncture pain clinics at the Royal Free, Whittington and North Middlesex hospitals.

English language requirements
You must have competence in English language and we normally require Grade C GCSE or an equivalent qualification. The most common English Language requirements for international students are IELTS 6.0 (with minimum 5.5 in all four components) or TOEFL internet based 72 (with at least 17 in listening & writing, 20 in speaking and 18 in reading).
Middlesex also offers an Intensive Academic English course (Pre-Sessional) that ranges from 5-17 weeks depending on your level of English. Entry into year two or three (transfer students)
If you have achieved a qualification such as a foundation degree or HND, or have gained credit at another university, you may be able to enter a Middlesex course in year two or three. For full details of how this works see transfer students

Clinical Placement
Clinical training occurs throughout the programme, beginning in year 1. Clinical practice takes place at the Asanté Academy of Chinese Medicine, which is the primary partner of Middlesex University for this acupuncture programme, and via collaborations with acupuncture pain clinics at NHS hospitals, including Royal Free, Whittington and North Middlesex hospitals.
