Fees and Funding

University tuition fees are payable by all students studying for a degree, diploma or certificate at the university. For most programmes of study, fee rates and funding support you receive are dependent on your country of nationality, residency and on the level of your previous study.

For frequently asked questions about fees and funding for undergraduates starting in 2012 - see Funding 2012 FAQ's

UK/EU full-time undergraduates starting 2012

The tuition fee for the 2012/13 academic year for UK/EU students is £9000

UK students

You can apply to Student Finance England (SFE) for a loan to cover the cost of your fees as soon as you receive an offer of a university place. In addition you may also qualify for a maintenance loan and additional grants depending on your personal circumstances, to help towards your day to day living costs. Find out more about grants and loans.

EU students

You can apply to Student Finance England (SFE) for a loan to cover the cost of your fees as soon as you receive an offer of a university place. It is possible that you may also qualify for support from SFE towards your day-day living or 'maintenance' costs, however you should seek advice from SFE on your eligibility. Apply online at www.direct.gov.uk/studentfinance

Please note that the University will consider that fees are payable by you unless you have documentation from SFE or the Student Loan's Company (SLC) stating otherwise.

In addition to the government support you may be eligible for, we also offer a wide range of scholarships as well as the Middlesex bursary. Our bursary is financial help for students from lower income backgrounds. And our scholarships are financial help for students who have beaten the odds or who have a particularly impressive track record.  More on scholarships and bursaries.

UK/EU part-time undergraduates starting 2012/13

The tuition fee for all programmes is £75 per credit so that students can, where the programme allows, study at their own pace. An undergraduate programme is 360 credits

International full time undergraduates starting 2012/13

The tuition fee for the 2011/2012 academic year is £10,400. Find out more about fees, costs and funding for International students.

Exceptions and reduced fees

Equivalent or Lower Qualifications (ELQ)

If you are a UK/EU student and returning to study a second undergraduate degree at the same or lower level as one you have taken previously, you are unlikely to be eligible for a fee loan from Student Finance England (SFE) and may be obliged to pay a higher rate of tuition fee. The higher tuition fee for undergraduate ELQ students at Middlesex for 2012 is £9000. There are some qualifications that are exempt from this including Teacher Training, Nursing, Midwifery and Social Work. Please seek advice from SFE for more information.

Nursing and midwifery

UK or EU students on BSc nursing and midwifery programmes are funded by NHS bursaries and therefore do not have to pay fees. However, you must apply for this exemption from the NHS. Information on the bursary application procedure is sent to applicants during the admissions process, and you can find out more at the NHS Bursary website.

Reduced Fees for the children of Gurkhas

Middlesex University believes that, like the children of all British soldiers, the children of Gurkhas have a right to a British education, and is demonstrating its support for the Gurkhas by regarding their children as UK students instead of as international students. In effect, this will mean that their tuition fees for an undergraduate programme could be reduced by almost 65 per cent. Gurkha Children Bursary application form.

Withdrawal Policy

If you decide to withdraw from a course you must notify your campus student office in writing.  If you decide to withdraw within the first four weeks of the start of the academic year you will not be charged. However, if you withdraw or interrupt after learning week 4 you will be charged as follows:

  • If you withdraw between learning week 5 and learning week 13, you will be required to pay 50% of the annual tuition fee
  • If you withdraw after learning week 13 you will be required to pay 100% of the annual tuition fee

See our academic calendar

Exceptions

Student Loans Company (SLC) funded students who withdraw between learning week 4 and 1 December 2012 will be charged tuition fees on a pro-rata basis, subject to submission of a finalised tuition fee loan/grant assessment from the SLC.

International students may be required to pay a non-refundable deposit (NRD) to secure a place; these deposits will only be refunded in the event that your visa application is refused.  Where the value of a NRD exceeds the value of charges incurred under the above withdrawal policy then the NRD will be the amount charged.
