Part time study

Earn while you learn

Studying part time can be a more affordable way of gaining your degree and also allows you to study at your own pace alongside work and other commitments. Currently 36% of students at Middlesex choose to study part time with us.  Choosing to study part time will be even easier from September 2012 as you will now be able to apply for a Tuition Fee Loan to help fund your study.

At Middlesex you can study almost all of our undergraduate programmes part time. Our undergraduate programmes are comprised of 360 credits in total. As a part time student you can choose to study a minimum of 30 credits per year or a maximum of 90 credits per year. As a guideline:

  • a full time student takes 120 credits per year and completes their undergraduate degree in 3 years
  • a part time student studying at half the intensity of a full time degree could take 60 credits per year and complete their undergraduate degree in 6 years

You can see exactly which modules are studied at each level and how many credits they are worth on the individual programme pages.

Professional Practice Programmes

In addition to offering our traditional programmes on a part time basis, we have developed a suite of work based programmes especially designed for professionals looking to progress their careers within their existing field of expertise. You can find out more about this mode of study here.

Fees and Funding

For September 2012, the UK/EU tuition fee for all undergraduate programmes at Middlesex is £75 per credit. An undergraduate degree is 360 credits in total.

Part time courses that are at least 25 per cent of an equivalent full-time course each year are eligible to apply for Tuition Fee Loans. New part time students can borrow up to £6,750 to pay for tuition fees.

There are a total of 1,905 new scholarships available for students starting undergraduate courses in Autumn 2012 as part of our National Scholarship Programme (NSP) offering awarded on a pro-rata basis for part time students. You can find more information on our NSP information page.

Part-time students may also be able to access a Professional and Career Development Loan. This is a bank loan that can be used to help pay for work related learning. Find out more about funding for part time students starting in 2011
