As the Inside Out Festival hits London for a week of cultural events, Middlesex's Fine Art students invite you to take part in a series of interventions.

Curated by The Culture Capital Exchange (TCCE), the annual Inside Out Festival showcases the contribution London universities make to the city's cultural life with a series of interactive events.

Middlesex University's Fine Art community is organising a series of live intervention projects throughout the week and are inviting all students, staff and friends to take part.

This online, live intervention project runs throughout the Festival and continues until 31 October 2014.

Exercise your creative will for the benefit of an unseen public. Throughout the week of the Festival, take part in temporary interventions and artefacts using only the materials readily available on your average cafe tabletop.

This is a call for the festival audience and cafe-goers to pay close attention, imagining these familiar, everyday items as potential props and materials for play; turning small insubstantial objects or details into creative impermanent gestures and presenting them for the enjoyment of others.

Art for all, by anyone, with anything and only for the price of a cup of tea!

    Seat of Wisdom

On Wednesday 22 October from 11am onwards, a small group of dedicated artists working in the School of Art and Design at Middlesex will take to the road with a portable chair; a seat of wisdom.

Their purpose is to create a travelling 'fourth plinth' of sorts, a modern-day soapbox, a platform from which to educate the next generation of artists. Throughout the day, the seat will be carried between cultural venues across London and set down and offered up whenever an opportunity arises to learn from anyone willing to sit and profess their ideas about the role and position of art in contemporary society. Sea of Wisdom

The journey begins at Middlesex University's Hendon campus and continues around London; follow the progress via Twitter and visit the Inside Out website to find out more about the project.

    Letter to a System

In 1967 the students of Barbiana wrote a letter to their former teachers. The letter started as a composite of collected thoughts, later developing into a powerful and direct demand for change to the system that had failed them.

Since then, the text has become a symbol of radical intention, critical thought and the strength of collective actions.

On Thursday 23 October from 10am, The Common will mirror this activity by providing a space to discuss and collect a diverse range of experiences, knowledge and opinions from artists and citizens today - creating a collective letter of its own.

To take part or find out more, follow The Common on Twitter, email The Common Projects or visit the Inside Out Festival website.
