Poet Laureate Carol Ann Duffy gives a reading to open the North London Literary Festival 2015

To mark the opening of the North London Literary Festival 2015, on Monday 23th March we are proud to present the Poet Laureate Carol Ann Duffy, who will be giving a reading to open the Literary festival as well as conducting a signing.

Dame Professor Carol Ann Duffy is a Scottish-Irish poet and playwright, Professor of Contemporary Poetry at Manchester Metropolitan University, and is currently reigning as Britain's first female Poet Laureate. She is also queen of the dramatic monologue.

Duffy's poetry gives voice to society's alienated and ignored in an unstuffy but compelling manner, wrestling with ideas about language and identity. Appointed Britain's poet laureate in May 2009, she is the first woman, the first Scot, and the first openly LGBT person to hold the position.

You can get involved by tweeting us any questions, thoughts or poetry you would like to put to Dame Professor Carol Ann Duffy, through our Twitter account @NorthLdnLitFest or by using the hashtag #NLLF15.

The event is free and open to all. To reserve your tickets please visit the Eventbrite page

You can see the full list of festival events on the Literary Festival event hub.
