In November 2014, the Mission of the International Observers visited Mexico to examine the situation faced by human rights defenders operating there.
Funded by the European Union and with the participation of more than ten national and international organisations, the report discusses the specific issues that impact and hinder the defence of human rights, including legislation and protection mechanisms such as the 'Protection Mechanism for Human Rights Defenders and Journalists' created in 2012.
The report was presented in the European Parliament on 21 October and in the United Nations Human Rights Council on 29 September. It was co-authored by Middlesex University Associate Professor Elvira Dominguez-Redondo.
