Individual service: focusing your ambitions

Individual advice is available to Middlesex University students (full or part time) in any year of study.  And you can continue to take advantage of this service for up to two years after graduating.

One of our careers advisors can help you to make informed decisions about your future career and give information and advice on a range of career-related issues.  Your relationship with the careers advisor is two-way: they bring experience and knowledge and you will bring your ideas, ambitions and commitment.  Examples of the kinds of questions you can get help on are:

  • Career options following completion of your course
  • How your skills, aptitudes, experience and personal qualities might relate to particular careers
  • How to research further study opportunities and funding
  • Finding job vacancies and developing an effective job-hunting strategy
  • Advice on CVs, application forms, interviews
  • Work experience options

In some cases the careers advisor will be able to call on a recent graduate already working in your chosen field, who can provide up-to-date advice on getting in and getting on.

Seminars and workshops: getting you ready

Once you have set realistic career goals you need to make yourself into the kind of candidate an employer cannot refuse.  Our Careers Service offers seminars on everything from employability skills, to writing your CV, to interview skills.

We also offer targeted workshops and events for specific courses and broader areas of study.  These are designed to bring industry-specific knowledge to you.  They can help inform you on the kinds of opportunities open to graduates, what employers expect and how you can get ahead.

Putting you in touch with employers

You have focused your career ambitions through discussion with a careers advisor, been to our seminars and crafted your CV and honed your interview skills.  Now all that remains is to find the job that starts your career and we aim to help you here too, by putting you in touch with employers.

We run a series of employer presentations across the University.  Companies and organisations and other recruiters come to us to raise their profile amongst our students and promote their graduate, internship and placement opportunities to students.

We hold regular careers fairs at the university and will help you find the best of the ones that happen externally.

Finally, Jobs Plus is our online vacancy service. If you are a Middlesex University student or graduate you can search Jobs Plus for full or part-time work, holiday or temporary work, work experience or voluntary positions.
