Olympic torch comes to Middlesex

The Olympic Torch Relay will be making a stop at Middlesex University, just two days before the 2012 Olympic Games begin in London.

The Torch Relay will make a lunchtime stop at our Hendon campus, giving Middlesex University a unique opportunity to celebrate the London 2012 Olympics, and our diverse students, staff and local community a chance to see the flame up close.

How are we celebrating the Olmpics?

We’re proud that our city is the first to host the Modern Olympic Games for the third time. Our London location means we are at the heart of the action, placing us in the ideal position to showcase the direct impact and influence the games will have amongst students, staff, and the wider community.

A key theme of 2012 is ‘Culture’.  London is staging a Cultural Olympiad, which is a series of events showcasing the UK's arts and culture to the rest of the world. This theme of culture is one we aim to embody here at Middlesex.  London 2012 is so much more than the many amazing sporting events that will take place during the Olympics. It is also about inspiring and motivating people, especially the young, to get involved in sport-related activities in many different and imaginative ways.

In the run-up to the Olympics many Middlesex students, staff and alumni are getting involved in the spirit of 2012. These activities will cover areas such as academia, research, community engagement, and obviously sports. We believe London 2012 will be the greatest games ever - helping to unlock the potential of our future stars.

The 2012 Olympics will be about bringing the world to London - something we have been doing at Middlesex for many years.  Our International partnerships enable us to provide links to many parts of the world, which is reflected in the diversity of our student body. Our UK University status is growing internationally, making Middlesex a key destination for London 2012.
