Project Gambia Volunteer Programme

Want to put your new found coaching skills to the test? How about travelling to a developing country and have the experience of a lifetime?

Middlesex University have developed links with Gambian authorities and sports agencies, to provide sports volunteering opportunities for Middlesex University students and staff. In September 2010 a team of Middlesex students and staff travelled to Gambia to deliver sports coaching and leadership training to over 20 Gambian sports enthusiasts. The Middlesex team all had previous experience of voluntary sports coaching in schools and local community projects, set up by Middlesex Sports development team.

Project Gambia Shoe Appealgambia shoe appeal

Middlesex University is working in collaboration with the Gambian Ministry of Youth and Sport and local charity Football Gambia to develop sports training programmes for young leaders and sports coaches in the Gambia. There is an accute shortage of suitable footwear for participants of all ages so if you have any surplus pairs of sports footwear such as football boots or trainers, of any size, and in reasonable condition, we can find a good home for them.

If you would like to donate your old sports shoes to our appeal, please deposit them at either the Trent Park or Hendon sports offices in our collection bin. Footwear should be generally clean and in reasonable condition. Please tie laces together so they remain in pairs.

Sports coach volunteering

We run a varied coach education scheme where we offer you the opportunity to become a qualified sports coach for free and then you pay us back in voluntary hours in a local school or community project. You can qualify as a level 1 or 2 coach in a variety of sports. Many of our participants go on to gain paid part time work as sports coaches, which can help out financially whilst you study. It also looks great on your CV, and you will pick up a wealth of transferable skills and experience. If you're interested in sports coach volunteering, find out more on our coaching pages.
