    Academic and learning support

As Progression and Support Advisors, we are dedicated to helping all students progress to their next year and successfully complete their studies. We pride ourselves on providing a quality service that meets the individual needs of every student. We aim to do this by providing accurate information, support, and advice in a non-judgmental, confidential and welcoming environment.

    Academic Writing

The Academic Writing Team can help you develop your writing, reading and communication skills generally, for life at university and beyond. You will sometimes see them in your degree programme working alongside your subject lecturers, and/or you can book yourself AWL Open Workshops and/or AWL Tutorials.

    Employability Service

One of the most important things employers look for when they're hiring is employability skills – even more than a degree or class of degree. Our Employability Support service provides a whole range of services to help you develop these skills, gain vital work experience and secure your dream job.

One-to-one employability support available by phone, email or webcam includes help with completing a job application form; writing a covering letter; creating a compelling CV; preparing for an interview; developing presentation skills; and managing your online presence. We also offer tailored support to help you set up and grow your own business.

    Graduate Teaching Assistants

Graduate Teaching Assistants are Middlesex University graduates, who are employed to assist academic staff in the delivery of quality education to students in a variety of learning environments. They provide additional support for students that may include face to face drop-in sessions, on-line support, assisting academic staff in the development, production and delivery of programme materials and the collation of programme and module data and information.

    Library Support

Our Librarians and IT specialists are available to provide expert advice on choosing the right resources or software, learning how to use it, and evaluating your search results. We also offer training sessions and one-to-one support throughout the year on using our resources and on understanding referencing and plagiarism.

    Numeracy

Our Numeracy Support service specialises in teaching the maths and numeracy you need to succeed at university and beyond. We also teach you how to understand and use statistics in your studies.

    Progression and Support Advisors

Our Progression & Support Advisors work with Schools to help students experiencing difficulties with their studies.

Progression & Support Advisors may be able to assist you with:

    • a change of personal circumstances (for example a period of illness)
    • module registrations
    • understanding University and programme regulations
    • changing to part time study
    • interrupting your studies

If you need help with any of these issues please go to the Unihelp Desk in the Sheppard Library.  A Unihelp Advisor will refer to you an Progression & Support Advisor aligned to your school.

    Student Learning Assistants

Student Learning Assistants are experienced students who know the typical academic issues students face in their studies. You will see them in lectures, seminars, workshops and small group sessions assisting you in your learning.
