The Wellbeing Foundation

The Middlesex University Wellbeing Foundation works alongside community groups and businesses to provide a wide range of placement and volunteering opportunities for students.

There are four main areas of opportunity.

Education

Various short courses are delivered the the Foundation which can provide students with additional qualifications to enhance their employability.

Courses include:

  • First Aid
  • Sports and or Dance Leadership
  • Sports Coaching Awards
  • YMCA Courses in Fitness Instruction, Personal Training and Exercise to Music

Enterprise Development

The Foundation works closely with the University's Enterprise Hub, Business School and Sport and Recreation department to support our fundraising efforts as well as students' economic wellbeing and entrepreneurial development.

Support is offered for students to help them develop their business ideas, as well as their leadership qualitities and potential.

Coaching and Volunteering

Working in partnership with various agencies, The Foundation aims to deliver sports coaching at after-school sessions and for our own holiday activity camps. These camps are aimed at children age 5 to 11, with all the activities delivered by Middlesex students who have undertaken coaching qualifications organised by the Sport and Recreation service.

The Foundation also coordinates numerous volunteering opportunities in partnership with other agencies including Saracens Foundation. Opportunities range from sports events such as the London Marathon to helping out at primary school sports days. Some students, where qualified, can also offer first aid, sports coaching or massage services to support events.

International Development

This is a key aspect of the Foundation's delivery aspirations. The Foundation works with various overseas contacts to provide international placements and volunteering opportunities as well as paid employment opportunities for students. Very often the challenge and excitement of an overseas intercultural experience can bring out the best in people, and many of our students have reported that their experiences abroad are the best and most rewarding thing they've done in their lives to date. The Foundation works with overseas agencies to offer opportunities for students to utilise their skills and experience in working with developing overseas communities.

The Wellbeing Foundation has worked on a variety of projects and formed positive working partnerships across the globe in countries including The Gambia, China, Kenya, Mauritius and USA.
