Sustainability experts are urging people working in the hospitality industry to join them to see how they can save their business money and help the environment at the same time.
Serving Up Sustainable Hospitality, a free “eco-workshop” organised by sustainable business experts from Middlesex University’s Ecovate project, will be held on February 3rd in Angel, north London.
Ecovate, a project designed to help SMEs in London realise efficiencies through improvements in their sustainability, is running the one-off workshop, focusing on the hospitality industry, to help organisations kick-start or enhance their sustainability efforts, meet experts in the field and network with like-minded colleagues.
Middlesex University’s Toby Nevitt, said people are often unaware of just how much sustainability measures could save their business.
He said: “As well as being an unquestionably good move for the environment, hospitality professionals are often surprised by how much money they can save by changing the way they use energy and water and buy in goods.
“There are also significant marketing benefits from demonstrating how you have reduced the impact of your business on the environment.”
He added: “It doesn’t matter how much experience you have in sustainability and environmental management, the idea of the workshop is to come and share ideas and gain an insight into what your organisation could achieve.”
The team from Middlesex will be joined by representatives from the Sustainable Restaurant Association, Heart of the City, the Islington Chamber of Commerce and the London Community Resource Network for a panel discussion and audience Q&A.
As well as networking opportunities and the chance to hear success stories from the industry, attendees can also find out if their business is eligible for free support from Middlesex University’s EcoVate project, which supplies tailor-made environmental advice.
Serving Up Sustainable Hospitality – an eco-workshop for socially responsible hospitality businesses takes place on Thursday 3 February at 6pm at The Window, Angel, N1 8QG.
