An award winning graduate from Middlesex University will have her artwork - made from human hair – used to promote an exhibition at The Louvre.
The world-renowned Parisian art gallery will be displaying a poster which includes typography made from human hair by graduate Kerry Howley, commissioned by American design firm Saigmeister.
Kerry used the hair from four Saigmeister Inc employees to create text for the poster which will promote the exhibition of influential graphic designer Stefan Sagmeister's work ‘Another Show about Promotion and Advertising’. It will be in Les Art Decoratifs, the famous Museum of Decorative Arts located within the Louvre.
Les Art Decoratifs is holding an exposition of influential graphic designer Stefan Sagmeister's work, and have advertised the exposition with a poster featuring Kerry Howley's distinctive hairwork.
Saigmeister is the latest big name to demonstrate an interest in Kerry. She has attracted attention from as far away as Hong Kong, Brazil and Spain and her work has also been featured by American television stations NBC and the Discovery Channel.
Her big break came when a unique necklace made from human hair, created for her final year project at Middlesex University, shot her into the public eye. Crafts magazine described her as one of its top six favourite graduates, while she picked up the Museum of Domestic Design and Architecture's Arthur Silver Award for graduate innovation and excellence.
Kerry, from Cambridge, who achieved first class honours in her BA Jewellery course, said: “So much has happened in such a short space of time. To be involved in a such a highly exposed commission such as the Sagmeister poster at The Louvre so early in my career is a real privilege.”
Her work has also been displayed at The National Centre for Craft and Design in Lincolnshire, and the Museum of Domestic Design and Architecture in London. Her jewellery will also be on show at the Temporary Art Centre in Eindhoven during Dutch Design Week (24 - 30 Oct 2011) and the Kath Libbert Jewellery Gallery in West Yorkshire (Nov 2011 - Jan 2012).
